What is postnatal depression?
Postnatal (postpartum) depression involves persistent low mood, hopelessness, fatigue, sleep disturbance, appetite changes, feelings of guilt or worthlessness, and difficulty bonding with the baby. DSM-5-TR recognizes Major Depressive Disorder with Peripartum Onset.

What treatments help manage postnatal depression?
Treatment may include psychotherapy (such as interpersonal or cognitive-behavioral therapy) and medication when appropriate. Medications are chosen with care to balance maternal and infant safety.
