BIPOLAR DISORDER

Bipolar Disorder is a serious mental illness characterized by dramatic mood shifts between depression and elevated mood states (mania or hypomania). At Interventional Psychiatry Group, we provide thorough evaluations and personalized treatment plans for all forms of bipolar disorder.
What is Bipolar Disorder?

DSM-5-TR recognizes Bipolar I Disorder, Bipolar II Disorder, and Cyclothymic Disorder.

  • Major Depressive Episodes involve low mood, loss of interest, sleep and appetite changes, fatigue, guilt, poor concentration, hopelessness, and thoughts of death.
  • Manic Episodes feature abnormally elevated or irritable mood, increased energy, reduced need for sleep, racing thoughts, impulsive behaviors, and often severe impairment or psychosis.
  • Hypomanic Episodes are similar but less severe, without marked impairment or hospitalization.
  • Cyclothymic Disorder involves repeated mood swings with hypomanic and depressive symptoms over at least two years, without meeting criteria for full episodes.
