AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental difference affecting social communication, behavior, and sensory processing. It is estimated to affect about 1 in 36 children. At Interventional Psychiatry Group, we offer thoughtful, individualized care for both children and adults with ASD.
What is Autism Spectrum Disorder?
ASD is characterized by differences in social interaction, communication (verbal and nonverbal), and restricted or repetitive behaviors. Examples include difficulty understanding social cues, rigid routines, repetitive play or speech, and unusual sensory sensitivities.
Symptoms typically present early in childhood but may not be clearly identified until social expectations increase. In some cases, autistic traits may be masked or unnoticed until adolescence or adulthood. ASD is not a disease, but rather a different way of processing information and interacting with the world.
What treatments help manage ASD?
Management is highly individualized and depends on areas of difficulty and any co-occurring psychiatric conditions. Early intervention, tailored supports, and collaboration with families can greatly improve quality of life.
Our team at Interventional Psychiatry Group offers evaluation and medication management for ASD and comorbid conditions, with personalized treatment plans that may involve coordinating with schools, therapists, and other care providers.
A comprehensive assessment is not required before scheduling with our team—we can help guide referrals if further evaluation is needed. Call Interventional Psychiatry Group at 901-752-4900 to schedule an evaluation, or request an evaluation online.
