PARTIAL HOSPTIALIZATION PROGRAM (PHP)

Day-level care when you need robust support—and a clear path forward—while sleeping at home.
What is it?

PHP is an intensive, structured program typically 5 days/week for ~5–6 hours/day. It combines multiple daily therapy groups, individual sessions, psychiatric evaluation/medication management, nursing check-ins, and coordinated family involvement. PHP helps stabilize acute symptoms quickly and builds momentum for recovery, often stepping down to IOP.

Benefits
Rapid stabilization without an overnight hospital stay
Daily therapeutic structure and frequent medication review
Comprehensive team (therapy, psychiatry, nursing, case management)
Active family/partner involvement and thorough discharge planning

Who it’s for (typical indicators)
Marked functional impairment (can’t sustain school/work/home routines)
Recent exacerbation of depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma-related symptoms, or mood instability
Needs daily structure and monitoring but is safe at home overnight (with a crisis plan)

Core elements you’ll see in PHP
Daily group therapy blocks: CBT, DBT skills, psychoeducation, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, mindfulness, and stabilization skills
Individual therapy (1–2×/week): targeted work on barriers and goals
Psychiatric care: evaluation on admission; frequent follow-ups for medication optimization
Nursing check-ins: vitals/symptom monitoring; side-effect education
Family sessions: communication, routines, boundary-setting, crisis planning
Case management: return-to-school/work planning, referrals, community resources
Measurement-based care: standardized scales to track symptom change

What to expect (sample day ~5.5 hours)
Morning check-in & goals (30–45 min)
Skills block #1 (60–75 min) → break
Skills block #2 (60–75 min) → lunch
Psychoeducation/processing (60 min)
Wrap-up, safety plan, & home practice (20–30 min)
(Psychiatry/nursing/individual sessions slotted during the day.)

Length of stay & step-down
Typical length: 1–3 weeks, individualized based on stabilization and goals.
Planned step-down to IOP, then to weekly outpatient care, to maintain gains.

Admissions, safety, and suitability
Intake screening confirms medical/psychiatric fit and home supports overnight.
If immediate risk is high (active suicidality, inability to stay safe, medical detox needs), inpatient or medical services are prioritized first; PHP can follow.
We coordinate with your outpatient providers and share a clear aftercare plan at discharge.

If symptoms are overwhelming your days but you’re safe to sleep at home, PHP can help you stabilize quickly. Reach out for an intake screening. Call 901-752-4900 to schedule an evaluation, or request an evaluation online.
