EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION AND REPROCESSING (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured, evidence-based therapy especially effective for treating trauma and PTSD. At Interventional Psychiatry Group, we offer EMDR as part of our commitment to comprehensive, patient-centered mental health care.

What is EMDR?
EMDR helps patients process distressing memories in a safe, controlled way, reducing their emotional impact. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (often eye movements, tapping, or sounds) while the patient focuses on traumatic memories. This process is thought to help the brain reprocess memories in a healthier, less distressing way.

What can EMDR help with?
Originally developed for PTSD, EMDR is now used for:
Childhood trauma
Sexual assault
Combat trauma
Anxiety and panic disorders
Phobias
Grief and complicated loss

Benefits of EMDR:
Reduce distressing symptoms linked to trauma
Reframe negative beliefs about oneself
Promote emotional healing without requiring extensive retelling of traumatic events
Enhance coping and resilience
